The amazing miniature spider that is winning our hearts! The Jumping Spider
Recently, there has been a significant rise in the number of people in the trade buying jumping spiders. But why is that? Aren't spiders considered hideous? With their eight legs and the way they move. And these particular ones can jump!
Only kidding, I love spiders. In particular jumping spiders and tarantulas are my favourtite types to keep. Don't worry, I will not scare you with a load of tarantula pics on this post( maybe another time!).
Today, we focus on the little guys and girls.
We focus on a spider that has won the heart of many arachnophobes around the globe.
I was one of them once, when I was younger.
So, why all the love for a spider?
Here, are a couple of reasons why
Jumping spiders are dirunal, meaning you can see and watch them during the day, whereas most tarantulas tend to be nocturnal.
They are extremely intelligent, being able to see clear shapes and even recognise your face in due time!
Watching them jump to eat is fascinating! When they are really hungry they will leap for food, and some say you can teach them how to do tricks!
There has been some research into jumping spiders and how they possibly may dream(More research is to be done)
They don't have massive fangs like tarantulas, yes they bite but it stings for a bit then wears off and they don't do this unless hungry or provoked.
They can use their version of blood hemolymph( inverts have clear fluid rather than blood. It turns blue or green when exposed to the air) , as a hydraulics system. They pump the liquid around their body and this causes their legs to act like a spring and they can leap high in the air.!
